Welcome to the Inaugural GCCS 2027

The Global Congress of Chemical Sciences was founded with a singular ambition: to create an annual world-stage gathering where the brightest minds in chemistry converge to share discoveries, forge collaborations, and chart the discipline's future. GCCS 2027 marks the very first edition of what we envision becoming chemistry's most important international congress — a moment to celebrate, and a foundation to build upon year after year.

From its inception, GCCS has been designed as a truly global event — a space where academic researchers, industry scientists, early-career chemists, and policymakers meet as equals. Our inaugural programme brings together groundbreaking research in synthesis, catalysis, sustainable chemistry, materials, and beyond, with a deliberate focus on work that will shape the next decade of the discipline.

Rome, the Eternal City, provides an inspired backdrop for this inaugural congress. At the iconic La Nuvola convention centre — a building that is itself a testament to human creativity — we invite 1,200 delegates from around the world to open a new chapter in the story of chemistry. We look forward to welcoming you to Rome in July 2027.

Scientific Programme Themes

GCCS 2027 spans the full breadth of modern chemistry through eight thematic tracks, each comprising dedicated symposia, invited lectures, and contributed presentations curated by an international scientific committee.

🧪
Organic Chemistry & Total Synthesis

Exploring the frontiers of synthetic methodology, natural product total synthesis, and the design of novel organic frameworks, including asymmetric catalysis and C–H activation.

🌿
Green Chemistry & Sustainability

Addressing the twelve principles of green chemistry through cutting-edge research in renewable feedstocks, atom-economical reactions, and inherently safer processes.

🔬
Materials Science & Nanotechnology

Covering synthesis, characterisation, and application of advanced materials from MOFs and 2D materials to smart polymers, with focus on energy storage and sensing.

💊
Medicinal & Pharmaceutical Chemistry

Uniting medicinal chemists and pharmacologists to discuss rational drug design, structure–activity relationships, and the chemical basis of emerging therapies.

📊
Analytical & Computational Chemistry

Showcasing advances in spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, and electroanalysis alongside computational chemistry developments in machine learning and quantum chemistry.

🧬
Biochemistry & Chemical Biology

Examining chemical approaches to understanding biological systems, from enzyme mechanism elucidation and metabolomics to chemical genetics and activity-based proteomics.

⚗️
Physical & Theoretical Chemistry

Probing fundamental principles through ultrafast spectroscopy, single-molecule studies, and theoretical frameworks from density functional theory to quantum dynamics.

🔋
Energy & Electrochemistry

Addressing batteries, fuel cells, solar fuels, CO₂ reduction, and electrocatalytic transformations central to the global energy transition and net-zero chemistry.
